BI 250: Greek Readings from the New Testament and Other Hellenistic Literature

Course Requirements

Required Textbooks:

Ernest Cadman Colwell & Ernest Tune, A Beginner’s Reader Grammar for New Testament Greek (Hendrickson, 2001).

Daniel B. Wallace, Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics (Zondervan, 1996).

Jerry L. Sumney, Philippians. A Greek Student's Intermediate Reader (Hendrickson, 2007).

It is assumed that the student owns a copy of the Greek New Testament (preferably Nestle-Aland 27th edition) and the BDAG lexicon.

At each week’s meeting, there will usually be:

1. Sight-reading from Colwell & Tune

2. Prepared translation section from the New Testament

3. Prepared translation section from some other hellenistic sources to be distributed

In order to facilitate the student's growth in being able to read the New Testament, the use of the vocabulary-learning aid "QuickMem"
is highly recommended. The QuickMem program is available online HERE.

There will be a final exam which will draw from the required readings; it will also include timed written translation from the New Testament
and from other hellenistic literature in which you may use BDAG, Wallace, and "ending charts" (but not an analytical lexicon, and not
BibleWorks), and an oral sight-reading session with the professor.
