BI 250: Greek Readings from the New Testament and Other Hellenistic Literature

Course Requirements

At each week’s meeting, there will usually be:

1. Sight-reading from Colwell & Tune

2. Prepared translation section from the New Testament

3. Prepared translation section from some other hellenistic source(s): Septuagint, Apostolic Fathers, historians, religious texts, private letters, and public inscriptions.

In addition, there will be regular assigned readings from Wallace’s grammar, and occasional secondary readings dealing with the language and literature of Koine Greek within the Roman world.

There will be a final exam which will include timed written translation from the New Testament and from other hellenistic literature and an oral sight-reading section. For the written portion of this final exam, you may use the BDAG lexicon and written grammatical helps (but not an analytical lexicon).
